Film Making (Ages 9-17)

Service Description

Story is the heart of film. This course will teach the fundamentals of acting in front of a camera. In addition, we will be practicing the art of cinematography. A hands-on approach will teach students how to set up and operate a camera, understand and control both natural and studio lighting, as well as know the function and use of camera components and accessories. We will look at an introduction to story development and foundational topics such as character, three-act structure, dialogue, theme, and genre. We even teach when and how to break the rules. Students will be able to utilize new tools to strengthen their knowledge of framing, movement, and lighting, as well as having motivation and cinematic purpose behind their creative decisions behind the camera. Student will be creating their own scripts, presenting them to the class, then one will be chosen to be filmed. Cancellations made within a week to the class start date will incur a $100 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given once the class session has started. SUBSTITUTION POLICY: As Michael is a working actor, a qualified substitute will be assigned to the class in the event that he is booked for a role that causes him to be unavailable. You will be advised if such an event occurs ahead of time. MISSED CLASSES We have a policy that classes are non-transferable and we have an expectation that it is the actor's responsibility to attend all classes for which they have registered. Any accommodation of a student's schedule is at the discretion of the instructor.
